Saturday...

I took no pictures this week until Saturday's Dance Competition. I was feeling a bit inspired to try some more 'artistic' type shots. Blurry shots and sleepy dancers reflect the fact that we had to be there 'dressed and ready' by 6:45 am.

Friday and Saturday

Friday's Picture:

It was hard to choose just one. We took pictures at the three different places we went, but this one captured the old charm of Schimpff's Old Candy Factory and Museum. There are quite a few more on Musings and leftovers.

Since this is the last official day of summer, I thought I would post these pretties. They have held on through the heat and drought. A little wrinkled around the edges, but still holding on to their color and beauty.

Wednesday and Thursday

Wednesday's Picture:

This is Luna, of course, I was trying to get pictures of the four new chickens (older, probably only one year left to lay), but they would not cooperate. However, everytime I turned around Luna was looking at me, asking for attention and her molasses cookies.

Thursday's Picture:

I LOVE Thursdays! It is a bit hard to see, but in this picture Brandon is spliting molecules into atoms, as well as making new molecules... at the same time Emily is next to him making an apple pie out of the apples we just used for an improper fractions lesson. I will post more about the experiment and the pie on Musings later tonight.

Monday and Tuesday

Dirk's b-day was on Monday, but the picture was taken today because he was at the hospital with his dad all day.


Ginger was acting really cute both days, this shot was from Monday.

A weekend for me!

Saturday's picture- this is really a picture of what is not here. I spent the day with a great friend at an arts and crafts fair. They were also having a blood drive. I haven't been able to give blood ever because of my iron levels, but I try every so often. I was able to give for the first time in my life, and I didn't bruise!!!! Whenever the drs take blood I end up with a bruise that is atleast 3-5 inches big and lasts for a week or two. It was a happy day!
Sunday's picture- I took the day off, stayed in bed and read this book. I have very mixed emotions about it. Parts of it really touched me, the idea of it captured my imagination, but much of it was just sappy and preachy at the same time. I do long for the types of friendships this book is about though. I also think having a father and a father-in-law in the hospital and a mom going through chemo colored the way I read too.

Well.....

Due to misplaced cords, misplaced cameras and getting out of the habit, I didn't do a good job of meeting my once a day posting. I did however think about it most days this week :) and I did get to comment a bit more on other blogs, which was nice.

Tuesday: Charles, he is my youngest student this year and my only official Tuesday Student. He is almost 13.


Wednesday: I really liked this shot of Earl and Emily.
Thursday: Emily again because it was her 13th b-day. I have known her since she was about 2, I have been her teacher in one way or another since she was about 6. She has been coming to the Center fulltime for 4 years now. I can't stress what a blessing and wonderful gift she is! When she was 4 she was diagnosed with A-T and her parents were told she would not make it to her 10th b-day! Here she is turning 13!!!

Friday: The 'jaded' 16-17 year old boys have discover the joy of building again!

Today's surprise visitor....

We have eggs!

When I got home from church I couldn't find Shirley. I was worried about her so I started looking, and even called Dirk to help me. I found her here and thought she might be hurt, but she was sitting on....
Thirteen eggs! Now I have been looking for eggs since the last week in August. I couldn't find any around anywhere. I assumed either they were late bloomers or that Angel was beating me to them (she has a huge fondness for eggs). I was really tempted to leave them because I thought maybe she was trying to brood them. But I didn't think it was likely that they were fertile anyway. So, Dirk and I collected them and candled them. Just plain eggs, no chick development at all. I didn't feel as bad stealing them from her.....
After we tested them for freshness, with the water test, we had fried egg sandwiches for brunch. Yummy!
It started storming and Shirley hadn't moved from the nest she had made, I started to get worried. I knew there was nothing left for her to be sitting on.... But since I didn't want her to get sick, I went out in the storm (wonderful cold sheets of water) to put her up in the goat pen with the other two chickens... low and behold I found yet one more perfect egg. She seemed ok when I picked her up and put her in the house. She stayed there until the rain let up then she went out to eat.

I still feel like a heel. I know they would have just rotted under her, but she didn't know that. Getting used to stealing eggs is going to take a while :) It also makes me wonder where Laverne is laying hers......

Nathan's first 'real' job

This is the front door of the family restaurant Nathan now works at. I called it his first job because it is the first one where he has actually had to fill out a W2 and pay taxes :) I am not surprised he ended up in a kitchen and I don't think it will be too long before he moves from dishwasher to prep-cook. They love him and have never had anyone of any age ever work so hard.

First 7 days of September!

Friday's Picture-- what the trash looks like when your pick up day is on Monday and Monday is a holiday and they 'forget to' add you to another day for the week. This mountain actually shows how much purging of pure junk we have been doing too.

Thursday's Picture- Nathan and I had a very, very rough day. The bad days are few and far between, but this one was one of the worst.
Wednesday's Picture- First day of classes. Asia and I took lots of shots today, I took this one. I like how it reminds me of the Escher drawing of the hands drawing the hands. There should be lots more first day pics on the Musings site if your interested.

Tuesday's Picture- the flat screens finally came in for the 4 work stations in the library. With the new big desk my FIL built and the new screens it feel like we have double the work space!
Monday's Picture- This is the only rooster left. When there were two Dirk named them Lenny and Squiggy. This is Squiggy, Lenny found a new home. I am fasinated by him daily and find myself taking lots of pictures of him. His feathers actually shimmer in the sunlight.
Sunday's picture- I was just playing around int he backyard. I really like this even though I would have changed the focus points if I could.
Saturday's Picture- Squiggy with Laverne and Shirley. They were watching us fill the pod with the 'keep stuff' and over-fill the dumpster with the trash, and even fill the van a couple times with the donation stuff!

Okay, I am caught up with September, my life is back to somewhat of a normal routine, and I have my computer back....so I should be back to once a day. I will be glad to start posting and commenting regularly again. When I do the speed catch ups I feel like I am really missing a huge part of why I am doing this project.
