The way Dirk checks out wedding locations :) This was the fourth location of the day and we were both tired and hot. See leftovers for shots from three of the four locations. The other one wasn't worth taking shots of!!!
While out today we combined looking at art galleries with scouting for wedding locations. This is from the basement (old morgue) of The Greater Louisville Medical School Building It was a cool building with great art, but the dance floor was probably too small. This is one of the first 'boxes' for putting patients who were to be autopsied. Before this box was invented (here in Louisville I believe) bodies were thrown into vats of chemicals and then gotten out by hooks and transported around like in a meat packing plant. The boys loved this piece of history :)
Ok, actually this is the wall behind the location :), but it is a more interesting photo! To see the actual location we visited today click on leftovers.
I was just about to go to bed when I realized I promised myself I was getting back on track! So, I jumped up and scoured the house for interesting subjects. I found these Black-eyed Susans that I had picked earlier today. I didn't like the photos I took until I cropped and used the color pencil effect from photoshop. Now I really like this one!
It has been really hard to get photos this week. Dirk's camera eats batteries like a kid eating candy and I have not been able to keep up with the demand.
I am making due though until my b-day in August. Posts will be sparatic until then.
This is Diana showing off the new breach in the goat pen. It is a good thing we live on so many acres that they can wander without going into anyone else's yard. They have stretched the whole fence so much that it would be easier to redo it than to fix it.
Sad chicken news, these are the last four left out of 24 that went into the yard. I was having a rough time putting them up at night, and so I left them to fend for themselves in the trees. One morning we counted 24, the next morning 18, the next morning 13, the next morning 4. These guys don't wander off the way the others did and Nathan is actually catching them and putting them in the coop at night. I think I will be looking to buy 4-6 more year old hens soon, if I can keep these guys healthy until September. If not, then my chicken experiment is over. I am not paying to feed my wildlife!
We went to my dad's house for a simple cookout on Sunday. It was very nice and relaxed. Check out leftovers for what everyone, except my step-mother and I, did after lunch :)
Chicken breast, green pepper, sweet onions, and fresh mushrooms, mesquite grilled, then eaten with wild rice in a tortilla. That was dinner tonight. It was very good.
After two hours of math and one of history, Asia and I decided to play today. She had never made a cake from scratch, actually had never realized you could make a cake without a boxed mix, and I had never played with real fondant.
We choose a recipe from the early 1900's because she had just finished a report on Susan B. Anthony. We went with a spring bonnet theme because it just seemed 'lady like'. It was a lemon/cherry liquor pound cake with a mixed berry filling. It also had a blackberry glaze, lemon buttercream frosting, and topped with fondant. My fingers are still green. I am very proud of my first fondant roses and bow.
Stone Rest It is a nice place. It would need some TLC, but the grounds are beautiful, the place is really special. The biggest plus is that the wedding can be indoors or outdoors and the reception can be indoors or outdoors and the dance floor is HUGE and it is a real dance floor. More pictures on leftovers.
Cheap summer date number one! We went to a free outdoor community theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors. I am glad I went, I am glad I was with Dirk, but it was one of the worst productions of this show I have seen. I will write more about it and add a few pictures to Ponderings .
I had been holding this spot trying to get a picture of her with her new car, but I haven't caught them together yet :) She bought it with matching funds from her Poppy. I have been told it is a great little car....1990 Accord.
I probably should have put these on Ponderings, but since my picture taking has been spotting I decided to put them all here. I am still using Dirk's little camera, however this morning was so beautiful it made all the frustration worth it. This is a small selection of what I took.
As I was walking the dogs this morning I noticed all the colors in the toy box. I tried a few more 'creative' shots but none of them turned out. Dirk's camera just does not do the same things mine did.
...HEY, Mickey, Hey, Hey Micky, you're so fine you blow my mind, Hey Mickey!!!
Not great music, but a whole lot of fun! Can you believe this video was banned in the UK during the 80s.
I found this box of 45's and albums outside tonight after Nathan stopped cleaning the basement for the day. Needless to say he was told to make sure they were in before the sunset!
